Zoe – 2 Months

And another month down! Our little girl is not so little anymore and gained 2 lbs in the last month. I love to see how she is growing! She is a lot more observing and enjoys talking to us. She also started to play in the activity gym and it is so cute when she makes her little noises while playing. She is a healthy, happy baby and very easy going. We are out and about almost every day and having a blast! We are soo lucky!!

  • Weight and Height:
    • at 5.5 weeks: 9 lbs and 3 oz ( she gained 11 oz last week)
    • at 6.5 weeks: 9 lbs and 10 oz ( she gained 7oz last week)
    • at 7.5 weeks: 10 lbs and 2 oz (she gained 8oz last week)
    • at 2 months:  10lbs and  12oz , 22.5 in long (both 50% percentile)

2 weeks to 2 mo

  • Diaper size: right after she turned 1 month, we started with Costco’s size 1-2 diapers (8-15lbs)
  • Clothe size: Newborn first, we changed to 0-3 month size on May 1

  • Sleep:
    • For naps during the day she sleeps either in the swing or in a rocker.
    • She still sleeps in our arms a lot. I love skin to skin and cuddling time, especially in the morning.
    • In the beginning of the month she slept in a bassinet at night.
    • On May 6 she spent the first night in her crib. She falls asleep without any issues and didn’t mind sleeping in there at all. The next day she slept there almost 7 hours in one stretch! We put her down at 8:30pm and she didn’t wake up until 3:15am! Since then she skipped the midnight feeding.
    • When we put her in the crib, she doesn’t fall asleep right away, she just hangs out and relaxes and eventually falls asleep by herself. I love that she can fall asleep on her own!

  • Food:
    • Breastfeeding is going very well! We did it for 2.5 months now, my goal is to exclusively breastfeed her until 6 months.
    • During the day she eats every 2-3 hours and at night she wakes up once for a quick feed
    • My husband gives her a bottle once a day, most of the time around 8pm right before she goes into her crib.
  • Health:
    • She is a healthy baby and I’m glad she has no diaper rash.
    • Her right eye has sometimes some yellow discharge and is a little crusty in the morning. We remove this with warm water and a paper towel.
    • twice this month she had not pooped for 48 hours, which started to worry me. Other than that she poops at least once a day.
    • She got her 2 months immunization shots today. I was nervous! She was crying right after for about 10 minutes, the rest of the afternoon she was awake and did not nap, which is unusual for her. She wasn’t too fussy though. At night she went to bed without any issue. So far so good!
  • Milestones:
    • smiling and cooing at us! Never thought a smile would make me so happy!
    • We planted a tree for her! In Germany it is tradition to plant a small tree when a baby is born. As the baby grows so does the tree and it is always a reminder.IMG_1222
    • The day she turned 6 weeks, we went to the gym (baby has to be 6 weeks old for child care) and I dropped her off at the gym day care. She is doing great!
    • Family photo shoot
    • start sleeping in her crib – longest stretch 8 hours (8:30pm until 4:30 am)
    • 1st babysitter
    • 1st picnic in the park
    • We celebrated Mother’s Day

  • Zoe likes
    • hanging out in her swing and falling asleep there
    • falling asleep in the car
    • taking a bath
    • play in the activity gym
    • us talking to her, she responds with some cute squeeks :)
    • being outside, she loves to watch trees and listening to birds
    • Zumbini class
  • Zoe dislikes
    • waiting to be fed
    • waking up from a nap
    • doesn’t really care for the bouncer
    • shots at the doctor

  • Baby essentials (aka things we could not live without this month): Some are the same as last month.
    • Pacifier: Even though she barely cries, it helps her to sooth and fall asleep easier. We started with Nuk and now also use MAM and other brands.
    • Bibs: she spits up a little when she burps and cotton bibs come in handy.
    • slow flow bottles for feeding breast milk (Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature): My husband is feeding her once a day a bottle and those work great!
    • disposable nursing pads: I’m leaking way less this month but still use them.
    • Halo SleepSack Swaddle: Unlike a traditional swaddling blanket, which can easily become unwrapped, the HALO SleepSack Swaddle uses strong, adjustable fasteners to get the perfect, secure swaddle in just a few steps. Simply place your baby in the sack, close the zipper, and secure the wrap snugly around baby’s torso with the fastener strips.
    • “Gentle Giraffe”: Sound machine soother. This one is great! Even though we have a very easy baby, we start it at night in her crib.
    • Backpack diaper bag: A friend suggested to get a diaper bag that is actually a backpack and not carried over one shoulder. And I’m so glad I got a backpack! Not only does my husband prefer to carry a black backpack, but also it is easier for me to have both hands free while carrying her in her carrier. No bag sliding down your shoulder.
    • Graco Travel System + car seat carrier: Great brand, good quality. It’s so easy to get out of the house with this. The jogging stroller runs smoothly and fits in my Honda Civic. And the car seat carrier is wonderful! Super light weight and perfect for going grocery shopping or walk around. Totally recommend this brand!
    • Car Seat Cover: I needed something that protects Zoe from sun and wind while we are out. I really like this cover, it wraps around any car seat and you can partially or fully cover the baby while still being able to sneak into very easily.
    • Fisher Price Sleeper: We use this one now after we get up in the morning and for our day time naps. She loves it! Plus it is a poop machine. I think gravity works to her advantage and she likes to poop in there :)
    • Swing: she loves relaxing and sleeping in there
    • activity gym: we change her diapers in there and also use it for tummy time. This month she started to play with the toys, which hang down.

  • Things we thought we need, but didn’t:
    • WubbaNub Pacifier: She takes it, but doesn’t keep it in her mouth for very long. I think the pacifier is a little too big for her, plus the shape is very different then the one we usually use Pacifier (Nuk)
    • Ergo carrier or any other carrier: We hardly use a carrier, maybe because she is still too little. When we go out we have to use the car, so we use the car seat carrier and stroller. At home, we mostly use the swing and rock’n’play. She loves hanging out there.
    • Bouncer: She sits in there if we put her in, but we could totally live without it.
    • Huggies Size 1 diapers: I liked the newborn diapers, but the size 1 diapers don’t have the “pee indicator”, which I prefer. It makes me happy to see the strip turn blue! Overall good diapers though.

1mo and 2mo

Our current daily routine:

  • We get up at 7am
  • During the day, she eats every 2-3 hours. No set schedule yet, so we feed whenever she is hungry and sleep whenever she is tired.
  • Getting ready for bed starts around 8pm. We give her a bath, change her diaper, feed her and then put her down in her crib around 8:30pm. We still swaddle her at night.
  • She then wakes for a quick feed around 4am and then sleeps until 7am

I feel so blessed to be the mother of this amazing little girl and I love seeing her grow and develop. She is such a cutie and she makes me so happy!! I’m excited to see what the next month has in store for us!

I can’t believe she’s 2 months! I know I say that all the time, but it’s true time flies. She is a doll and you have an adorable family. I’m glad things are going well!
